Getting to know you 15.12.2016: Why do we lie when a mid-slumber call comes through?

I have discovered that I share one little lying problem with most of humanity. Ever notice that when someone calls and you are dead asleep, that when they ask ‘Did I wake you? Were you sleeping?’ – you ALWAYS answer ‘No, of course not!’ in your highest-toned most hyperactive voice?

Whhhhhyyyyy is that?! Seriously, what harm would it do to admit that you were mid-way to coma when the call came in?

Something to think about…. Let me know if you know of any good reason why everyone does this. Do you do this?

Lol, just did. Perhaps because the calls are most often a plea for help, so I I would not want to discourage them.

Hi Mliae, It seems you weren’t pleased with this reply by someone! πŸ™‚ I have myself said it often. I will try to tell you as precisely as I can what happens… πŸ˜€

When I was listening to a lecture in class, I knew I had to listen carefully, because what the teacher was speaking was quite high level stuff, that is , sleep inducing. πŸ˜‰
I knew I had to keep myself alert and take in every thing that he is saying with a questioning attitude to understand it fully.
I knew I must keep the pen and paper together and stay in a writing position to note down any doubt if it may come in my mind.
I was aware I must not let myself get distarcted towards any other thought relating to Susie or Rosy at this hour
I knew if I lose a single statement of his, I will lose the whole context of his narrative
I knew I have to be attentive..
I knew I have to be alert..
    I knew I have…
And suddenly I heard the shout- “You boy, sleeping on the first bench!”
    “Who me?”
    “Yes You!”
“I didn’t sleep! No! Not at all”

    Saw how it happens!! πŸ˜€

Actually the sleep slips in so stealthily, I myself don’t believe it had come, also because the moment someone shouts, it vanishes so fast as if it had never been there! πŸ˜€

      Hahaha…Great story! πŸ˜€
I wasn’t pleased with this reply, no. But the person who gave it was myself. And its always the same reply anytime I’m asked if I’m sleeping. ‘No, of course not! Nope, nuh-uh…’ It’s so ridiculous. WHY do we do it? Do we think people will judge us for napping? Well, ok, in your case they will.
your sleep vanishes when someone shouts? Lucky you. I walk around with one eye open for at least half an hour.

What’s worse is why we always pick up the phone to begin with.

This is exactly my problem. It’s like we think the world will melt if we don’t answer the phone.

I turn off my phone when I go to bed ~ I can be very antisocial when I want to be. ❀

It’s a good idea. I wish I could do that without having a panic attack that that important job or family call comes through the minute I shut it down.
