Final Wedding Dress Shopping Tomorrow!

I’m late! I’ve been just taking my time with everything, thinking that I could pick out a dress and have it in and ready to wear in 3 months time. How wrong I was! I had no idea how long these dresses take to make, and fit, and alter, and fit…and hope its right on the BIG DAY!

I have gone to several different appointments at several different boutiques, but haven’t had that dress moment. You know the one, it involves tears and ‘Oh my God! I’m getting Married!!’ I spent a ton of time online too, and actually had a great dress in mind. One that my fiancé inadvertently picked out. I actually called about it, but the closest one was several countries away and I just cannot manage that if it doesn’t fit perfectly straight from the box.

Quite honestly, the only place I found a few promising items was at the first dress shop, which I shared a favourite with you here. I saw some others that I would like to try. So, I made an appointment at the original boutique and there a dress will be chosen. It will happen. I’ll let you know how it goes. Tomorrow is the day!

I’m really hoping I can find something will sleeves, or straps. Thats the only thing I’m really stuck on. I don’t want to be walking around all day tugging at the top of my dress. Otherwise, I’m open to everything. Who knows? Might find that moment in something I wouldn’t give a second glance otherwise.

I’ll post about it, but only when I can block my fiancés access to the blog temporarily. Anybody know how to do this?

Wish me luck!

Recycled Book Reading Challenge! Hitman: Enemy Within

I am sooooo late posting this, this month. My apologies! The holidays carried me away and I just could not complete the book in time. My apologies!

My read for the month of December (and part of January) is Hitman: Enemy Within by William Dietz. I am not sure how I found myself with this little treasure to begin with, but I dusted it off from the hidden depths of my bookshelf and decided to give it a read.

Here’s a quick summary:

A competitor in the assassin game decides to take out the ICA (International Contract Agency) and their top assassin, Agent 47. Agent 47 was trained from birth and is not playing around. Agent 47 is a loner (of course) and takes the task to hand to find the persons in charge of sharing information with the ICA’s competitors. He travels far and wide to get what he needs, and an interesting side not of all of this is his glaringly obvious fascination with food & culture. Which is kind of fun, I must admit. I will leave you to figure out the rest.

This is a good, suspenseful, hitman adventure story. Although this is not my typical favourite sit, read & relax type of book…I really liked it! I’m unsure if there is a move based on it. But if there isn’t, there very easily could be.

If you would like to join my Recycled Book Reading Challenge, you can click here for the challenge rules. Love to have you with us and everyone is welcome!

Thanks for reading!

Hello, dears!

Thirteen months ago, I received one of the most exciting emails of my life, from Stanza. Long story short, after an interview they invited me to use their app and get involved in Nike´s 21-day challenges. Since then, I´ve been thinking, overthinking, and working on my own calendar, trying to find a way to make it helpful and easy to use (myself included).

Thirteen months later, I think I´ve found it! And it feels REALLY good 🙂 If “Get in shape” is one of your resolutions, you don´t want to miss this!

In a single category, you have three daily events with different goals. Each event has multiple routines, you only have to choose the one you want to do. Circuit training to lose weight, strength training, back pain relief, and so on. Currently, there are 17 different routines, but the number is going to get much bigger. Organized…

Why Fashion Week is so Important (1 min read)

When we think of Fashion Week, our minds usually conjure up images of the fashion elite sitting coolly in front rows of high-end, highly anticipated runway shows. Although this is true, Fashion week is mainly targeted at those who work in the fashion industry. Fashion week is a work event.

Read: Favorite Looks from the 2016 Runway Collections

Imagine you own your own small business. You have two weeks in a year to display your half year’s work. You have to make it count! You would cram in as many meetings with investors, marketers, and media moguls as you possibly could as this would be your main chance at spreading the word about your products. Same goes for Fashion Week.

We tend not to consciously acknowledge the fact…

Blogging in the Twilight Zone: Am I the Asshole?

When your need for dignified blogging lands you in a comment war with a teenager.

Yes, I realize going into this that it’s probably going to be a shit-storm. I also know that I am not alone. So, speak up, people!

I don’t want to sling mud, so the blog I’m referring to will remain anonymous. She is, after all, quite young and I don’t desire to inflict harm. I do however, want to find out who else has done this and why.

So here’s how it went down: Late last evening, I’m scrolling through blogs. It’s Christmas. I haven’t had a solid nights sleep in days, and I don’t care because its been a great holiday! So anyway – I come across this blog (that I follow- because its supposed to be news-y & political discussions & there have been some read worthy posts.) I had to check out the article because the last one I read seemed to be a bit of a rant against a certain group of people. So I do. And the information being portrayed as news facts, is …off. As far as I know anyway. The article was stating that Russia was sending entertainers to entertain the Syrians. I know nothing about this – could be true, could be bs. However, I do know that the entertainers who died in the plan crash yesterday, were headed for the troops to entertain for the holidays. So, I leave a comment that it is the case and it’s quit normal as USA has sent entertainers to entertain their troops for the holidays for a very long time as well …just for the record. (This is my fault. I should have just let it be. But in my mind, if you are going to pass a blog post off as news – you need to have your facts straight! Otherwise, its just propaganda.) And Hooooolyyyy shit. The response I get, you wouldn’t believe! Something along the lines of: How dare you compare the USA to this…..awful person…They never!  So I said ‘ So the US never sent people like Bob Hope & Marilyn Monroe to entertain their troops?’ Big Mistake. Apparently, ‘ignorance is a right not a duty and it is shameful to make such analogies.’      Me: ‘ Ummmm…what?! ‘ Then I lost my cool completely. (Shame on me…)   Long story – short: Apparently, by saying that those who died in the crash were Russian military musicians and comparing entertaining their own troops to the USA doing the same – has somehow been distorted to my minimizing the atrocities in Syria. WTF?! How did THAT happen?! So I just said OK and that I didn’t mean it that way – in any case- and sorry it was perceived that way.

I am still completely puzzled as to how that whole thing happened. But it also really made me think. How often do we ourselves, or others, have completely well-meaning intentions that turn ugly when people are carrying on 2 very different conversations with each other? Do we expect conflict so much that we inadvertently create it?

What do you think? Have you done this?

A Happy Start to Christmas Weekend!

Happy Holidays, everyone!

It’s the Friday before Christmas…and what am I doing? Well, blogging at the moment. LOL But besides that, I’ve been cleaning like a squirrel on crack for the past 2 days. Seems like I got my energy back. Yay! And when I say cleaning – I mean cleaning! Scrubbing lamps, walls, windows – the whole shebang. And it’s festive 😀

Although I am usually quite conservative about the amount of holiday decor I put out, this year, I have completely lost my mind and it’s been a blast! It began with a small tree and a string of lights on a tree outside. It’s mutated into lots more lights everywhere (and in every window) with Christmas candles burning & Christmas tunes blaring – around the clock. I even put on a potpourri simmer today.

I don’t know why but there’s something about a 7 hour spotify Christmas music playlists and lots of twinkling lights that just make me lose my mind. In a good way 😉

I’m so excited and really in the Christmas spirit this year! How about you? How’s it going?Any Christmas nerds out there singing along to shop music with me? (Oh yea, I’m that girl. My Fiancé has been keeping his distance)

Happy Holidays!

Bejeweled Blitz Challenge update

Greetings earthlings 🙂

As many of you know, I challenged myself to see how many coins (starting from as near to zero as I could get without earning  more coins by playing) I could get on Bejeweled Blitz by only using the daily free spin(s), the new treasure chest button (coins or a gem free every 8 hours), playing the free daily challenge & only actually playing the gem if you win it from the daily challenge & coins from playing the ads.

I did not play any regular games. Only if I had won special gems, then I played those.

img_6230

150,000 happened really fast. And then, on the daily spin, I won 100,000! This has happened twice since.

img_6231

I’ve discovered, that if you wait to watch the ads until after you take your daily spin, a pop-up will come up after you’ve spun once, to watch an ad and get another free spin. OK, that works! Cool 🙂

img_6233

A couple days in and I was starting to be surprised how fast I was accruing coins by NOT playing the regular game.

img_6248

I hit 1,000,000 surprisingly fast. Really. I was actually shocked.

img_6254

Still going pretty quick, but the rate at which I was gathering coins started to slow.  However, there have been at least 2 daily challenges where I could play for the gem more than once. However, with a goal score like this, I couldn’t win it. No way.

img_6263

Can’t believe it! I guess it felt like so long before this challenge, because I would sometimes spend my coins for special gems. When not making any purchases, this number popped up waaayyy faster than I expected.

img_6302

Once I hit 2,000,000 – The rate at which I was accruing coins slowed drastically. I attribute this to the fact that this is a smart game. It has to be. The scores I needed to hit in order to win the daily challenges increased by 250,000 – 500,000. Whereas I was winning these challenges on a regular basis, I am now losing more than winning. Good thing though is that if you don’t watch all your ads first, a pop-up will appear after your first challenge attempt that will you give another free try after watching an ad. I like this 🙂

img_6309

3,000,000!

So, all in all this challenge is going pretty well! It’s fun, and because I’m not allowing myself to play the regular game at all – in order to see how many free coins I can get, I don’t have to worry about getting hooked in to playing this game on repeat for a long time.

Do you play Bejeweled?

Say Farewell to Traditional Wedding Cake Toppers and Hello to Some Fun!

Today, I found myself on a wedding planning streak. And then, it happened…I delved into the world of cake toppers.

Quite honestly, this is something I have really been putting off because I don’t really want the normal bride and groom propped next to each staring straight ahead, glassy eyed, at their future. Surprisingly, I discovered that we are no longer limited to the traditional toppers, or even to letters (thank God, because they look too big for the small affair we are having).

I had a great time and spent several hours looking at all the really fun and entertaining cake toppers. I even found a few that I thought were great! You really won’t believe how many options are out there now!

So I had to share some of these really fun new cake toppers so you can enjoy them too! Some of these are really hilarious 😀

Yay! A reason to celebrate on Fri-yay!

Just a little health check in to let you know that I am doing so much better! I went in for one of my follow-up blood checks and I was told that I’m now running on levels twice as high as I had when I went into the hospital. I am so happy! 🙂

It seems like the transfusions and treatments have started to work and I am out of the woods. It’s only a matter of time before I’m at 100% normal levels again. WOOHOO!! And OK, I’ll admit it…maybe the resting helped some too 😉

So this chic is very happy on this Friday. I’m really hoping this means I can re-introduce onions, garlic and the occasional glass of wine into my diet again too. Oh garlic, how I’ve missed you.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, encouragement and demands that I take care of myself. It worked!

Have a great Fri-yay!

Sustainable Fashion Feature: Shift to Nature

Greetings all!

As many of you know already, I have been on the hunt for friendly, fashionable, sustainable, fashion houses with great customer service which utilize sustainable business practices. And I found a great eco-fashion start-up that goes by the name of Shift to Nature, in Australia. They are awesome! Truly, super-cool and incredibly friendly and cooperative people! So much so, and I have to tell you this because it just never happens, that I was put in contact with the owner and personality of Shift to Nature and she is the one who made sure that every single one of my questions were answered, that I had all the facts, and went WAY above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that we have everything we need to make our own evaluations of the company! (and she returned all 8 million of my emails) This fact, in and of itself, really made me acquire a fashion crush on this company. I wish that more companies were able to understand the true value of incredible customer relations. As this can either make or break a sale, or a lifelong of sales, regardless of how pretty the item on the hanger is.

How I came to contact Shift to Nature

I have spent countless hours researching fashion houses. I’ve even spent loads of time searching brand names woven within massive e-commerce sites, in the search for a handful of businesses that offer fashionable sustainable clothing that I feel confident are the crème de la crème. However, even though sustainable and eco-clothing seems to be gaining in popularity, there are some boxes that need to be ticked for me to contact a company in the first place:

  • A majority of the products must be natural fabrics (I say majority because some of the businesses are doing good things by upcycling non-natural fabrics to avoid creating waste)
  • Fashionable items. I want to feel beautiful in my clothes at work, on a date and at home. I know you do too.
  • Fair trade (it doesn’t have to be registered fair trade. Using local artisans and product or helping those in need by paying fair wages IS Fair Trade…with or without the label.)
  • Sustainable business practices
  • Transparency in business practices
  • A non-market based orientation for their products. (Unfortunately, so many eco-fashion houses are mis-using the identity as more of a marketing strategy and less of a genuine concern)
  • Good customer service
  • Reasonable international shipping. (You know this is a MUST for me. I’m neurotic about shipping…not sure why.)

Shift to Nature has far exceeded my wish list.

To show you some of the 100% natural fabric women’s items I fell in lust with, I’ve created a virtual capsule wardrobe for ladies from some of Shift to Nature’s product line! Even the sunglasses are bamboo!

  1. Bamboo Wide Yoga Pants,  2. Bamboo Long Sleeve Crew Neck Shirt,  3. Merino Wool Eco Snood, 4. Aurora Black Scarf, 5. Tortoise Ethical Eyewear

1A. Black Stripe Bra and Underpants, 2A.  Long Sleeved Organic Cotton Stretch Dress in Charcoal Grey 3A. Bamboo Wrap  4A. Celestial Nightie, 5A. Bamboo House Dress

A bit about Shift to Nature

Shift to Nature does work with designers, some are smaller than others, which creates a great opportunity for new designer discovery as well as for the consumer to find an item they go ga-ga over without having to pay the usually astronomical designer price. (Hello Virtual Capsule Wardrobe…you will be MINE!)  New items from different designers are added monthly, as well as keeping with some of the continuous favourites. They do re-order stocks of the best-selling items, so if there is something you love that currently isn’t in stock, ask about it and wait whilst daydreaming. It will be back!
Product pricing is affordable compared to many of the eco-fashion stores, but it is not cheap. It is quite clear that they go to great lengths to provide fair pricing and to take into account the customers relative sticker shock when making the move to eco-clothing. They also offer very reasonable international shipping (Yay! Happy me 🙂 🙂 )

I’m doing something a bit different in this feature. I hope it works out. While I was looking over some of the answers to my questions I received, I wasn’t exactly sure how to put it into narrative. You see, my problem was this: The answers just ooze personality. If I were to reformat that into my words it would….lose something. I think that the personality is so important to a brand, especially when it is the owner speaking and you can hear the passion and excitement in your mind while reading. I don’t want to take that away because it is so important! So for the first time ever, I am leaving it in Question (me)/Answer (Shift to Nature) format.

Q – Does Shift to Nature work with any designers?

A – Shift to Nature is a really large collaboration with designers and brands for their own products as well as new in-house Shift Collaboration such as Faite, Noa Lane Nail Polish and Lily & Leo organic cotton kids range coming soon! Designers with their own brands are featured such as Alas the label with Sleepwear, Eleven44 hot yoga wear and more. All of the designers work on a small scale and have chosen to make the shift to eco fabrics. While this has been in no way limiting their designs, as each designer brings the wearability and softness of eco fabrics into a contemporary colour, lines, prints and fits. Our “in-house” designers are actually wonderful collaborations with notable freelancer designers around the world. Aude in France, Tess in Perth, Project Change collaboration in Cambodia, eco designers in Sydney. For me this promotes alternate economies for people. Lovely and creative women, often mothers can work at home, managing their own time and also having fun with the process. It’s one of my favourite parts of the Shift to nature process – there is now a community of very talented creatives around it – including Bloggers 😉

Q – I see that you also include Lenzig Tencel, any thoughts as to eventually incorporating Cupro into your catalogue?

A – Yes I would love to include Cupro which is a regenerated cellulose fiber derived from cotton linter (the ultrafine, silky fibers that stick to the seeds of the cotton plant after it’s been ginned) creating a silk like cotton fabric. However as this is a new fabric it is still very expensive to make it into reasonably priced eco garments. I noticed that high end designers such as Donna Karen are using it. This raises the question of cost in the fashion industry – hopefully as the new eco fabrics are developed and become widely available a drop in their prices can make them available to smaller designers who can find the balance between eco and acceptable purchase prices for the consumer. There is a tension here. While customers move toward ethical and eco purchases there is difficulty often to justify the higher prices. The higher prices are ethical and related to the real transparent cost of eco fabrics, fair wages and ethical business. However due to fast fashion companies producing incredibly cheap and plastic clothes, consumers are now used to purchasing leggings for $5. This makes the shift to eco very difficult, unfortunately. For designers and makers we are limited to reasonably priced organic cotton, bamboo, lenzig tencel and other such more available fabrics to keep the costs reasonable.

Q – Approximately how many farmers, artisans, etc can you say that your Fair Trade practices help worldwide?
A – Goodness, that is very difficult to say. It takes a lot of minds, hands and hearts to make quality products. Possibly 100’s of families are helped through the activities of Shift to Nature designers and makers. This is probably unique as Shift is a collective with people making lovely items across the world – from Estonia, Bali, Germany, India, Cambodia, Denmark, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Peru – rather than having a limited place of making. As we search for newly unique items everyday we find some wonderful items – and manage it all online, so as carbon neutral as possible in terms of business operation. And we are not limited to English – we love to stretch ourselves and make connections really finding the most unique products.

Q – Do your sustainable practices extend to logistics as well?

A – Yes so for items that come to us as stock, we use sea freight if international. For packaging and posting to our customers we use Australia Post who have good quality assurance and standards. We also believe in public shared economy – so it is important to utilise the international postal systems in each country – keeping them alive and serving all. Based in Adelaide Australia, we have recycle policies of our local council. We remove as much plastic wrapping as we can and then hand wrap the items with recycled tissue paper. We then recycle or reuse as much as we possibly can.

Q – Is there transparency in Shift to Nature’s business practices?

A – Yes there is as much as possible. We will be applying for B-Corp status such that, this certification will require reports. However we are a startup and so I am partly still self-funding the business. We do not make a profit because all of the funds go back toward research and development of new designs and eco products. We are hoping that this will carry us into the future. Our business aims is to create a self-sustainable business – meaning that it can survive as a business stand alone, without additional investment, and that its income is reinvested back into itself to create better products. We spend much much more on R&D than on marketing, for example.

Q – Any new product lines we can look forward to?

A – 🙂 Big smile – yes! Without giving everything away, we think eco and fair products should start with kids. Kids have a big sense of fairness and care and childhood is where a sense of wonder and concern for the planet is sometimes at its strongest. They also want fun and comfortable clothes. Lily & Leo is just around the corner – but no peaking!

Here are some of the items for Home, Kids and Men available:

1B. Luxury Organic Cotton Sheets  2B. Bells Beach Turkish Style Cotton Towels 3B. Men’s Tailored Hemp Linen Shorts 4B. Dino Quilt Cover Set

And this is where it gets even better! 😀

Shift to Nature has very generously offered us a 15% off discount promo code (M15) AND is giving away a bottle of Noa Lane vegan nail polish* with purchase (remember promo code: M15)! *While supplies last, colours may vary.

shift-to-nature-au-promo

A bit about Noa Lane:

Q – I would love to share more about the Noa Lane Vegan Nail polish that you have so generously offered as a bonus to our readers! What makes it vegan?
A – This is so exciting! People often say: ‘but nail polish has no animal products’ but it actually does. Regular nail polish does, in fact, contain fish Scales (usually from Herring) that creates the Sparkle. The iridescent qualities of the scales make them “ideal” for grinding up into glitter. Noa Lane Nail Lacquer does not contain any Fish Scales. The sparkle comes from mineral Micas! Naturally forming mica flakes are from Muscovite mineral rocks which are refined and for safe cosmetic use, the result combined with colour gives the beautiful Opalescent finish. When used in nail polish suspension base the Mica powders distribute freely and evenly leaving a uniform colour saturation. The shine and shimmer of the mica compliments glitter polishes and unlike powder pigments micas do not clump or cause streaking in nail polish. Noa Lane Nail Lacquer also Does Not contain these animal by-products commonly found in regular nail polish: stearic acid, glycerol and cochineal, or crushed bugs. Items from the Noa Lane Mineral Cosmetics range are Vegan and Not Tested on Animals. They are free of Five particularly nasty chemicals including formaldehyde which has been linked to cancer by national research bodies. Noa Lane Mineral Cosmetics is made in Australia with ingredients comply with International standards.

It has truly been a pleasure to work in conjunction with Shift to Nature in order to write this feature on sustainable fashion! They have gained a lifelong customer here and I know that your experience, should you so choose to check out the company, will be as awesome as mine has been!

Thank you so much for reading! And please remember, if you find yourself on the Shift to Nature website  use promo code: M15 at checkout for a 15% discount and a complimentary bottle of Noa Lane vegan nail polish! (*While supplies last, nail colours may vary).

Recycled Book Reading Challenge: Sandstorm by Michael Asher

This book was passed along to me by a friend of mine after he finished reading it. It’s been sitting on my bookshelf for awhile, so I thought it would be a great pick for November’s Recycled Book Reading Challenge.

This book is set in the Sahara, during the 50’s. It is a bit cliché – the whole honor, nomadic wanderer, loyalty, betrayal in the desert thing. But it is a good book…so far…for a few days of chilling out.

However, I must be honest. I was unable to complete this book before todays challenge deadline. So it is difficult for me to share an accurate assessment. I’m not exactly sure why…maybe the tiredness. But I just couldn’t get into it as an adventure book, which I generally get so involved in, I can’t put them down. But by the time I got about 100 pages in, it started to seem a bit…easy to guess where it was going. I did try to finish it, but it just didn’t hold my attention. I’ll be passing this one along. I guess now I understand why it was given to me 😉

I’m loving reading your challenge posts!

Capsule Wardrobe Survival: 8 Ideas to make your black dress work overtime for casual, office and evening!

Hello ladies 🙂 This post is for all my comrades in the eco-fashion, capsule wardrobe journey. As well as those who, like myself, are wiling to invest in an item of clothing that can do triple-time, even if there isn’t exactly available funds for a luxury purchase. (Thus creating the necessity to make your few items work well for you in multiple social circumstances).

Today, I bit the bullet and purchased this dress. (Ok, it was actually a joy, not a chore.) Although I do have a Vince Camuto LBD that I purchased years ago and still get quite a bit of wear out of, its short, low-cut and sleeveless. It’s winter now. I just…can’t. Something about snow, wind and a mini skirt just doesn’t calculate well. I haven’t had a basic black dress for winter in many years. However, I thought long and hard about how I could make this purchase worth my while with the items I currently have available for my winter capsule wardrobe.

As most of you know, I have made myself a promise that I would not buy fast fashion (Which unfortunately, also means affordable for someone with a next to nothing budget) and that I buy only natural fabrics. I went on a long search and found this dress. 95% cotton and 5% elastin. (I prefer zero elastin, but hey, sometimes it’s just there. Like, good luck finding a pair of jeans with no elastin. Am I right?) Then I kept it bookmarked for a few weeks while I weighed the options. Today, I checked out 😉

The following are the ways I will turn this basic black into a Capsule Wardrobe essential that will work overtime for a variety of occasions!

  • Firstly, you can just wear it like it is with a pair of black flats.

cef8d36bb4d955e227c6178e92186b0a

  • Dress it up for a semi-formal evening  or a hot date, with a glamorous necklace and sexy heels (rose gold, in my case)
  • Accessorize a great look for the office with a big cozy scarf, a light necklace, and thick heeled ankle boots
  • Go boho with a loose cozy poncho and thick heeled ankle boots or wedges
  • For an easy to achieve highly sophisticated look, pair the dress with a brown leather obi belt and brown and black heels
  • For a super casual day, throw on those converse and a denim jacket! (I’m so glad wearing sneakers with dresses is fashionable now!)
  • For another business look, pair with a cashmere cardi, a skinny belt and highly sculpted suede ankle heels
  • If it’s really cold and you just want to be warm, cozy and look super cute; Throw on your favourite boyfriend sweater over top of it and pair with boots or sneakers.

It’s all about accessorizing, ladies! It’s amazing how versatile this one item can be when using items you probably already own to make it go from casual to office to a night out!

What are some of your must-have capsule wardrobe staples?

Bejeweld Blitz, all coins gone

OK, so I played away all my 6 million and something coins. Down to 1,250. That was as low as I could go without making more coins. There wasn’t any boost or anything I could buy.

A few things I learned whilst playing away all my coins:

  • The boosts that seem to do the most good are the extra time, the one that explodes all the special gems, and the one that gives you your #2 gem right away
  • When you play the special gems and the click a gem reward comes up at the end, the grand prize will never come around if you continue to click the same gem location (i.e.; I clicked the middle one on the bottom row each and every time). EXCEPT with the apple gem, I got that whopping 10,000 coin grand prize 3 times. But that’s it – while spending the entire 6 mil on special gem play. So my theory is correct, it is a smart-game that predicts whats happening.
  • It seems to me, that many of the boards on the special gems are identical. So, if you happen to find a series that works for you and gives you a good score one game, remember what you did because chances are very good it will be the same either the next game, or several after.

Now it’s time to start from scratch. Let’s see how this goes 😉

Seasons changing

I wanted to share this photo. I love it, I love the scenery. Sitting by this lake was a joy and I will miss it terribly as I watch the snow drift in and the sunshine diminish.

A Bejeweled Blitz Experiment

Hi everyone 🙂

Please allow me to start off by stating that I am not a gamer. I play Bejeweled Blitz when I’m like- waiting in a reception hall or bored to tears. I don’t play online or compete against friends. It’s just a thing. Recently, I’ve noticed that they have introduced all sorts of ways to get coins and new jewels to play with, in addition to the daily challenges, and so I just got so curious that I’ve decided to do a little experiment.

img_6215

As you can see, I had accrued 6,780,950 coins. But my curiosity is this: With all of the extra ways to get coins and gems, how long would it take from zero, and how many coins could I get by just playing the daily challenge, using free spins, watching ads, and using the free mystery box – while only playing the free gems that I had won – without playing extra games or purchasing boosts or additional coins. So this is what I’m out to prove. (And hopefully figure out some other stuff on the way). I’m sure that PopCap Games has a lucky gamer who actually receives a paycheck for these things, but I had to see for myself.

This is the most absurd thing to do, but…curiosity killed the cat, I guess. So, I’ll be playing away all of my 6 million+ coins until I reach zero, and then starting from there with only the freebies and not spending any coins along the way. I will check in with updates periodically and we’ll see where this takes us. I mean…what the hell, its just a game, right?

Any bets on how this goes?

OK, Let’s Talk…

Time to get a bit personal, ladies and gentlemen.

I’m not usually the type of blogger who shares the details of my life which are truly personal…like down to the core, personal. I like to keep things in my life on the positive side, and don’t generally even like to speak about the difficulties one might be having. However, this is something that has truly gotten my attention, and as my fellow bloggers, I am hoping that you may have some words of wisdom on how to navigate the storm.

As you might well know, recently, I have been blogging daily. I love it. This takes time. Lots of time and tons of energy. No problemo, it’s worth it 🙂 I’ve also been getting ready for the impending holidays with a fervor that rivals only our upcoming wedding. And the wedding planning…we actually had to take a time-out from that for a bit, as we wanted to spend at least as much time planning our marriage as we were planning our wedding. (So that’s why you haven’t been seeing tons of wedding posts recently). And the job? Well, you can imagine that all of this equals one very tired Mliae.

Since I have attributed all of this to my sluggishness, you can imagine my utter shock when I went in to have my ear checked (accompanied by a blood test) and I was informed that I was basically running on like 30% of the blood that a normal healthy woman my age should have. They had me sent to the hospital that same day. Among other things, I received several blood transfusions. This is terrifying. I am so disease-phobic that the mere thought of having another persons blood running through my veins was enough to make me break down into tears. And then, it happened. I found myself frantically trying to write posts from my phone in the ICU. I am addicted to my blog and cannot bear the thought of going MIA for days, that is crystal clear now.

We are not yet sure what is causing this and are keeping a close eye on things. It is disconcerting because I usually like to run at high-speed. Like, neurotic squirrel – high speed. (That is how my fiancé refers to it, anyway.) Everyone else seems to be more aware of the seriousness of this, except for myself. I just don’t want to contemplate that there might be something seriously wrong. I don’t want to be sick. I want to be my happy, healthy, squirrel-y self again. Because of all of this mess, my loved-ones have been telling me in quite loud voice, that I am not allowed to be a work-a-holic until this is rectified. I spend all day, every day blogging and working. You know that feeling when your goals are within reach and you know that all you need is ‘one more push’ to break through that wall? That’s how I feel. That’s what drives me. I will continue, there’s no question there. But, how does one circumvent the situation when there are things which need constant attention and those around you are treating you like a fragile granny – just sit and relax – when you really just want to run around the block?

This must be said: A HUGE THANK YOU to all of you out there who take the time to donate blood! It is a life-saver! ❤

My question is this: I know that most all of you have to carefully schedule and prioritize. How do you do it? What do you do when you are running at ‘full steam ahead’ and then suddenly, a massive wall appears?

Thanks for reading and hopefully, sharing advice too!

DIY Wood Cutting Boards

This is a great idea for our wedding, so I had to share it! Thank you to http://www.twobyjillabsten.com for the great post and allowing me to share! What do you think, can we pull this off?

JILL ABSTEN COX

Like most brides, I wanted to go the extra mile to set the scene at my wedding. As a kid, before my years as a florist and an interior decorator, I worked for a catering company. I suppose I was over-exposed to the standard catering set up, bar trays and piles of plates. I wanted my day to have a more authentic rustic vibe. One of the ways I achieved this was by eliminating the typical catering equipment. I didn’t have the budget to buy a dozen wood trays (averaging $30-$50 a piece), so I made them myself.

It was so cheep and easy!

I began with Top Choice 1 x 24 x 72 Kiln-Dried Whitewood Softwood Board from Lowes. It runs about $10 a board & will make 2-4 cutting boards. I also bought 1 x 12 x 48 boards to make smaller designs.

Cut the board to desired size.

Super C Tropical Chia Pudding #pandavita

Hello there 🙂

Chia pudding. Ah, chia pudding…we see it all over our instagram feeds and kind of wonder to ourselves: so, whats the big deal? Chia seeds contains TONS of Omega 3’s. More than eating spoonfuls of dried flax. So, if you don’t eat a lot of fish, a person still needs omega 3’s for brain function, among other things. The reason for the big Chia Pudding craze is because your body will not fully absorb the nutrients from Chia seeds if they are eaten whole. So, soaking your Chia seeds causes them to break open and gelify (is that a word, or did I just make that up?). The gel is what contains the nutrients which are most needed, so Chia pudding or a variation thereof is the best way to get what you’re looking for. Vitamin C is necessary, not only for helping to keep the sniffles at bay during the cold months, but also because Vitamin C helps your body absorb more of the vital nutrients you need. All supplements are helpful, but I very much prefer plant-based nutrient sources as opposed to lab created chemical cocktails. Hence this recipe, which is entirely plant based and is seriously healthy for you.

What you need:

  • ½ dl Chia seeds
  • 3 dl coconut almond milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Organic Baobab powder

img_6217

What you do:

  • In a bowl, mix the 1 tsp Baobab powder and 3 Dl of Almond coconut milk well (you don’t want any clumps).
  • Then pour in the chia seeds and stir, making sure to keep the chia seeds separated and mixed well with the Baobab – Almond/Coconut milk.
  • You can either leave it to sit for about 90 mins, or my personal favorite, is to set in the refrigerator overnight and serve for breakfast.
  • Stir occassionally
  • Eat and enjoy!

img_6220

And remember, if you would like to order the Baobab powder, you can find it from Panda Vita with international shipping and use promo code LEB15 to get 15% off!

I hope that you enjoy this recipe as much as I do. It’s a very light tropical, creamy taste. And the best part is: You get an entire days worth of Vitamin C and Omega 3’s in one sitting!

Thanks for reading!

Does my choice to wear natural fabrics, really dictate my fashion options?

…Sometimes, it really seems that way.

I am frustrated. I spent a large portion of my day doing some Christmas shopping online. Take, Zalando, for example. A website that is full of designer labels, clothing and accessories for the entire family. I scrolled and scrolled through for hours today. Literally, hours. Every time I found something that was stylish and somewhat affordable, it was a poly or acrylic blend. It is so frustrating.

Luckily, those I’m shopping for aren’t as picky about fabrics as I am. Though I would love to be able to get them some nice, soft, pretty items made from natural fabrics. I am starting to presume that this is a luxury wishlist, as it is just so difficult to find anything other than Tee shirts, the occasional college shirt or long sleeve Tee or cotton blend sweaters. I found 1…yes, ONE full cotton dress on the entire site. What is the deal?! I mean, I just don’t understand it. I would LOVE to be able to buy a silk maxi-dress for less than 1,000 ($/€) or wool pants for less than 500. Why is it, the fabrics that are most sustainable and take the least amount of processing, are also used the least and cost the most? Does anyone understand the logic in this?

How did we get here? How do we get the fashion industry’s attention to let them know that we don’t need a closet full of artificial, inexpensively made clothes that will be out of style in 6 months…that we need quality craftsmanship, natural fabrics and beautiful classic, versatile designs that will last years?! THIS I am willing to pay good money for, even save if I have to. Of course! What woman wouldn’t invest in her appearance if she knew she looked fabulous and that she could get her money’s worth out of her garment?!

I am amazed that I am able to find more natural fabrics and nice designs on amazon, than I am on Zalando. I never thought it would be this challenging to go ‘rogue’ when I made a deal with myself that I would only buy natural or sustainable clothing, at least for the year, to start.

Anybody else having this experience?

Comments! :D

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for all your comments recently! That is awesome 😀

Just dropping a line to let you know that I am replying to comments and emails now. My apologies for being slack these last 2 days. I wasn’t feeling too well, and finally went to the doctors today. Apparently, I managed to rupture my eardrum. :/ Anywho, I’m stocked with antibiotics and back on track now.

Talk to ya soon!
