Happy Weekend!

I only wanted to wish all of you a very lovely weekend! I am quite excited, as the voting for the Annual Bloggers Bash best bloggers awards will be starting very soon!

I hope you had a nice week. I did. It was the usual things. However, I did finally get to make use of my random factoid series in a business context. I just tossed into conversation (at a well-timed moment, not just randomly) that bubble wrap was intended as 3-d wallpaper and it went well! Lots of conversation about it. So, that made me happy 🙂

Have a great weekend!

Random Factoids 14.02.2019

‘Clinophobia is the fear of beds.’

Here’s to hoping your Valentine’s date doesn’t have that. This was probably an inappropriate post. But I couldn’t help myself.

Enjoy the day however you are celebrating!

Mix & Match

Sooo…Magazines.

This month, I set a challenge for myself to do a bit of a clean-out. Magazines (leafs) are being found in crazy numbers here. This seems to be difficult for me to put in the bin, so I thought a small rant might be OK.

I used to love reading magazines. I would thirst for it. People would send me the leafs from overseas. I wanted to read about the newest fashion. Try the newest recipes. Contort myself according to the most lust-worthy exercises. Read about the glam travel destinations and see if I could get there myself. But then….. oh then…. the marketing came.

Now I understand that any publication (yours truly included) must pay the bills. But there was a tipping point. A point where 80% of the publication was advertisement. This happened quite trickily. For awhile, the fashion ads were incorporated into the newest fashion trends. We all knew it was advertisement, but loved looking at the photos nonetheless. However now, its just ad after ad after ad. Why should I pay 10€ to look at commercials? I can see them for free every where I go. As a matter of fact, I cannot get away from them!

So it seems to me that alas, magazines have had their heyday also and are now a thing of the past. So sad….

Is it just me?

That’s quite many mistakes and would take a very long time. True.

Trying New Blog Formats

I decided that I would like to add a bit of ‘newness’ to my blog here. As you surely noticed, I have been changing formats like I’m trying for new shoes. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I just can’t seem to find a format that I’m super happy with.

Does this happen to you? Do you become overwhelmed with the options and find something you think is perfect only to discover you can do nothing with it? Ugh.

Oh, if there was a format that you either do or do not like, please let me know.

Still on the search

Getting To Know You 05.02.2019

I’m on a diet. A quite strict diet. Which makes me fantasize about all the rubbish food I cannot eat. So my question for today is: What is your favourite rubbish food?

Mine? Well, I do love nacho nite! But in this case, I have to say cake batter! I cannot bake a cake, but I will eat an entire bowl of batter! Gross, huh?

What is your favourite rubbish food?

I Am Not Posting The RBRC This Month

Hello all 🙂

I hope that you were able to find some relatable data from the Blog Following Experiment that I posted 2 days ago.

Due to all of the work/research/organizing I have spent my time on recently, I have been unable to get through an entire book (or one that is relevant more than in my own corner of the earth) this month. So, I am postponing the Recycled Book Reading Challenge until 1 March.

Please do feel free to link to your own RBRC posts so that I may link to them as well!

Thank you for understanding

Getting to Know You 29.01.2019

I read an interesting blog post about 1 week ago (which, of course, I am unable to find so I can link to it now…) which was talking about the insecurity that particular blogger had. ‘Will you like this?’ ‘ Do I suck?’ ‘ Will anyone read this?’ and I had to comment. I comment that, well, we all suck! Hah. That I think that our real-ness is what makes blogs so popular. When we are reading a blog vs. any kind of marketing material, we all feel a bit at ease because we know (in most cases) that there is a real person behind it. A real person with real emotions, experiences, needs… Not a team of marketing professionals that are blending together the ideal persona for their particular branding needs.

This blog post, really made me think. There are basic needs that every one of us has. We all need to be loved. We all need to survive. We all need to feel like our lives are worthwhile. And I think that we, as publishers, all need to feel appreciated for putting ourselves out there!

So my question for today is: Do you have these same needs and insecurities?

I know I do!

Window Shopping Day

What do you do when you’re feeling blah? Well, window shop, of course!

I am not feeling so pretty or sexy today. It’s cold out and I’m wearing so many layers that I look like a marshmallow. I am dreaming of clothes that make me feel….feminine. With heels of course! So I hit the net in search of all the things I would purchase for myself to uplift my mood. Because let’s face it, days are just much better when you feel…pretty 🙂

Since I am currently unable to indulge in the January sales, the only way I am able to ‘purchase’ pretty things and show them off …. is here. This gives a whole new meaning to living vicariously through the internet.

So here is my virtual outfit for the day (please excuse the formatting, I am always learning…):

I Found This Last Night: What Do You Think?

Hello there 🙂

Hope you are all recovering nicely from the holidays!

I was sorting through some items last night and found an envelope full of newspaper articles that had been sent to me about 10 years ago. I keep these things because they are from a beloved person who always thought to send me good recipes and interesting articles from around the world.  She is dearly missed.

571F70AA-F169-43F4-B569-5D4BD8D638C0

This article states that researches have found some evidence that fidelity is in a persons genetic blueprint. However, as I read it, it sounds to me like ‘dad was loyal, I am loyal’. This makes me ponder the age-old question of whether or not something is genetic or environmental? I mean, those who have grown up in families where both parents are in love, loyal and know how to work through their problems are more likely to exhibit similar characteristics.

So, what do you think: Genetic or environmental?

I Almost Had it Together This Year….Only Not Quite.

That moment when you realize that you’ve been invited to holiday parties but realize that you don’t have even one hostess gift. You have 1 day to shop, again, for those – and today is that day!

So this is what I’m doing today, people. Going out to get the obligatory ‘Thank you for inviting, imbibing and feeding me – here’s ________’ gift. I hope the stores aren’t full of people. Otherwise, my hostess gift may be a bag of bird food.

Arrrrg!

Interesting Topic For Discussion. What Do You Think?

Last evening, I found myself engaged in a debate. And the debate was this: Do dogs feel love or do they rather feel a sense of security and loyalty which we mistake as love?

Personally, I would like to think that dogs do have a sense of love and attachment. However, there were really good arguments made for both sides of this. I would really like to know what you think!

What do you think: Love or loyalty?

How often do you blog?

My answer: Well, I used to blog once weekly. Then every other day was my goal. But it seems like recently, I’ve gotten into the habit of daily blogging. Which is awesome 😉 How often do YOU blog?

Daily post: Now you see me…

…or then again, maybe you don’t! If I had a superpower where I could appear and disappear at will, when and where would I use this superpower? Oh boy! Thank you, daily post for such a fun prompt! I just HAD to join in this one!

I’m assuming this is in modern day and that if I tried to extend it to time travel, my cellular structure would get all screwy and I’d wind up looking like a defunct Mrs. Potato Head in the 18th century. So, we’ll scrap that.

  • Halloween
    • Yes. Absolutely. I’d wander around neighborhoods invisible, and then magically reappear right as a large group of trick or treaters were walking up to a door. Muahahaha…talk about screams!
  • Free Travel
    • OK, this is 200% in violation of the superhero code of ethics…and mine as well. Buuuutttt….if we’re talking about fantasy, let’s go there! I would totally be tempted to board an international airline with the first class passengers while invisible (Yes, the handbag might be a bit of a problem but we can deal with that later), find an empty first class seat, plop myself down and chill until we arrive at whatever destination we seem to be going!
  • Parks and Gardens after dark
    • Due to safety concerns and vandalism, many of the most beautiful parks and gardens around the globe now lock down at a certain time and that’s it. I would be invisible until everyone was gone, and then I would just sit and enjoy the peaceful beauty and fragrant flora.
  • Neurotic germaphobe investigates
    • I would go into hotels and restaurants while invisible before/during/after hours to check out the public hygiene practices of the place and then report back here!
  • Important meetings
    • ECB, Federal reserve, Parliamentary meetings…you got it and you can BET I’ll be there! If interest rates rise, I’ll let you know (and start paying down my loans a WHOLE LOT FASTER). Raising taxes? No problemo…I’ll be there! Decisions to alter anyone’s constitution? You’ll hear me whining loudly! It’s such a nerdy thing to admit, but I feel like being able to take back a little of the freedoms and availability of information that the world has recently sacrificed both knowingly and unknowingly would be of great assistance. Not exactly sure I’m the ‘man’ for the job…but it would be great to be the metaphorical ‘fly on the wall’.
  • Least of all, would I be an actual super hero
    • I’m a chicken. Being invisible and then being so scared I didn’t realize I left my sunglasses sitting on my head, just to be busted (and beaten) by a villainous super – not super hero is exactly my M.O. and I’d be glad to avoid it.

More than perfect photo borrowed from Schizoidlawi …Thank you 🙂

What would you do with your power of at-will invisibility?

Some of my fellow super-hero’s:

  1. Pulling a rabbit out of the hat at Jitterygt
  2. anglo-swiss chronicles
  3. Ruthless games
  4. Radioactive Bubblegum
  5. The Story of a guy
  6. Theresa Barker
  7. PGHlesbian
  8. Finding life
  9. Time Passages
  10. Love and Death and Everything in Between
