Pumpkin-Shaped Cheese Ball ala Bobbe!

I found my Halloween party recipe! WWWAAAAHHHOOO!! Hehe. So excited about this awesome idea from http://www.bobbecrouch.com 😀 She makes this pumpkin shaped cheeseball look deceptively easy to make and I can’t wait to try it!
If you like creative bloggers with great personality, you should check out her blog. There’s lots of fun stuff!
Thank you, Bobbe for allowing me to share this!

My World (and recipes too)

In honor of Halloween coming, I thought I’d share one of the most fun recipes in my arsenal. I’m sure a lot of you are either hosting or going to Halloween parties this weekend. If you need to take a really fun appetizer, this cheese ball is delicious and it makes a GREAT presentation!

The photos you see here are from an adult cocktail party I catered this weekend, so my pumpkins don’t have faces on them, but you can absolutely dress yours up as a jack-o-lantern if you wish!

Also, I use this recipe for loads of Holiday parties. I’ve formed it into a carrot for Easter, made it into a Christmas Tree for Christmas and it’s even been a heart for Valentine’s Day!

I regret not having photographed the entire process but you are smart enough to picture the ingredients in a bowl. You start by making the…

Link Your Halloween Recipes!

Hello there 🙂

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a link-up, and they’re always so much fun! However, I wanted to do something a bit different this time. You see, I need your help!

With all the noise I’ve been making about Halloween, I finally decided to do it. I’m throwing a Halloween party! There will be both children and adults, so it has to be suitable. So, I’m sending a plea out into the blogosphere! If you have any, easy to make – don’t need a ton of ingredients – Halloween recipe on your blog, please leave it below! (Or if you have a recipe not yet on the blog & feel like helping me out – please write that bad boy out!) I need all the help I can get! Also, I’ll share the recipes I used after the party in a follow-up post 🙂

Whaddya say? Can you help me?

Can’t wait to see what you’ve got! Remember to leave the link to your Blog’s Halloween recipe below!

Recycled Book Reading Challenge: Bartending For Dummies, mini edition! #challenge

Hello all 🙂

It’s that time again, time for the Recycled Book Reading Challenge! This was a good one and a very fast read, especially since it fits in the palm of my hand. I will be keeping this one in the kitchen for reference when entertaining! 😉

This is my first ‘For Dummies’ book and I was surprised at how they are able to take it back to the most basics of the basics. Like…what is a wine opener. Surprisingly informative, it actually explains the process. Interesting…

The pocket sized book covers everything from tools and basics to a few frequently requested drink recipes like Rusty Nail, Irish Coffee, John Collins and even the famous James Bond Martini! (Verrryyyyyy coooolll!)

I picked up this little guy years ago for about 0.05 and I’ve never even looked at it. Now that I have, I’ll be flipping through it on a more regular basis.

If you would like to join the Recycled Book Reading Challenge, click on the link and start dusting off those old books! When you link your post back to me, I will link to it in my following challenge post. Thanks for reading!

Wedding Cake Topper Decision

Greetings earthlings 🙂

Well, we’ve finally decided how to do the cake! If you read my post about finding all the most hilarious wedding cake toppers, you know that I really craved something that show-cased our odd sense of humor. (OK, MY odd sense of humor. His humor is a bit less twisted.)  If you would like to read the post, you can find it by clicking here.

Anywho, we’ve decided that since our biggest detail crush seems to be the flowers (& entertainment), that we will use some of the flowers for the cake topper. Not anything over the top (Lolz, pun intended) but something simple, like the pinterest pic I downloaded here.  You’d be amazed. I googled flower cake toppers and there were some real major flowers that were the size of the cake! We don’t want a big floppy flower cake hat, just something small, simple and beautiful. Maybe add a flower or 2 on the crest of the lower level.

What do you think? Love it, or hate it?

Happy New Year!

Happiest of New Years, 2017, everyone!

Welcome to the way you will be dating every important document for the next few months.

I’m dying to hear your resolutions! Mine is basically to be Super woman. I’m not getting the best start today.

Due to the holidays, my recycled book reading challenge which is posted on the first, will be posted in a couple days. I’d rather be tardy, than ill prepared 😉

Happy 2017!

DIY Wood Cutting Boards

This is a great idea for our wedding, so I had to share it! Thank you to http://www.twobyjillabsten.com for the great post and allowing me to share! What do you think, can we pull this off?

JILL ABSTEN COX

Like most brides, I wanted to go the extra mile to set the scene at my wedding. As a kid, before my years as a florist and an interior decorator, I worked for a catering company. I suppose I was over-exposed to the standard catering set up, bar trays and piles of plates. I wanted my day to have a more authentic rustic vibe. One of the ways I achieved this was by eliminating the typical catering equipment. I didn’t have the budget to buy a dozen wood trays (averaging $30-$50 a piece), so I made them myself.

It was so cheep and easy!

I began with Top Choice 1 x 24 x 72 Kiln-Dried Whitewood Softwood Board from Lowes. It runs about $10 a board & will make 2-4 cutting boards. I also bought 1 x 12 x 48 boards to make smaller designs.

Cut the board to desired size.

Reblog link list party not party.

*Please read the post before commenting

Hi all 🙂

If the title to this post is a bit of a head-scratcher, please allow me to explain. Since reblogging seems to be a bit of a hot-potato issue, I decided that I would just straight up ask all of you, to please let us know whether you are pro-reblog or anti-reblog. There is no judgement here, or explanation needed. It would just be simpler to know and share those blogs which encourage their followers to reblog, and to be aware of the blogs that would rather keep their content original, so that people will know to respect your wishes and not hit that reblog button.

So here’s my thinking: Everyone is more than welcome to join. The more, the merrier! I will, at a later date, be posting a comprehensive list (or several, dependent on the level of interaction) of sites that have an open reblog policy. I would also like to somehow let people know of good blogs that would prefer to maintain their original content. (In a separate post). If this is something that interests you, you let me know in the comments section and I will link to you on the follow-up posts. Bonus point- you can use this post as an arena to market your site.  I will only include sites in the list who have clearly stated whether they prefer TO be reblogged, or whether they prefer NOT to be reblogged, along with the link to your site (so as to avoid any confusion on my part).

Please, if you would like to be included, leave your stance on the issue in the comment section along with your link. And, since I love reblogs and would like to make this list as comprehensive as possible, please feel free to share this post 🙂 Let’s make the blogosphere a more familiar place!

Have a nice Sunday!

I got to enjoy this gorgeous passionfruit cheesecake. It’s delicious! It was perfectly beautiful until I accidentally bumped it with the cake cutter, but I wanted to share it anyway so you can see my perfectly imperfect birthday cake 🙂

A word about centerpieces

Although we still haven’t fully decided if the reception will be outdoors or indoors, we still need to look at how to make our reception not look like a luncheon meeting, but a wedding.

Looking through all the ideas for glamming up a wedding reception, I’ve come to realize that its absolutely ridiculous what people are spending on these affairs! Who says we all have to have dozens of flower arrangements on the tables, garlands, candles, signs, table runners – all adding up to many hundreds even on the cheapest end?! I’ve now perused thousands of DIY ideas, but still, just cost of the items will end up being as much as the food.

I got stuck on Amazon looking at centerpieces, and take this for example. 20 crystal candelabras for the mere cost of $2,500.
SET OF 20 WEDDING CANDELABRAS CANDELABRA CENTERPIECE CENTERPIECES – GREAT FOR SPECIAL EVENTS! – SET OF 20

candelabra-centerpiece

Ok, I must admit – wedding fever is so bad that these are tempting…
I really don’t understand. I mean, its gorgeous, of course! How could not be when you’ve shelled out thousands for fresh blooms and crystals. But WHY is this considered such a necessity? Why do I feel like I have to keep up with this, in order not to be viewed as a pauper who can’t properly decorate her venue? WHY must I spend hours putting together something the day before my wedding (or day of) to lay out on tables, which inevitably, someone will have something to say about anyway.

I mean, honestly, even though it isn’t my usual formal glittering self, something like this is more my style of something fun, frugal and useful:
Floral Unique Kit with 50 Lollies

lolly-centerpiece

Is it OK to have some fun with this stuff? Make an edible arrangement? I have been searching high and low for something beautiful and fun which won’t leave our tables looking barren and might possibly leave our bank accounts in tact.

What do you think, can I break tradition and do something fun and weird plus maybe some affordable blooms instead of these grand monstrosities that will throw me into bankruptcy? Any ideas are more than welcome!

Kapow! Meggings!

Kapow-meggings-bengal-ronny-reagan-actionWe have to talk about a new trend in menswear that’s actually pretty cool! In a world where menswear shops are full of the mild and conventional muted and neutral colors – with the same basic cuts (you know what I’m talking about) it is a breath of fresh air to see some variety for mens clothing with color on it! These are a conversation starter, for certain. I can say for certain that the people will be coming up to you asking about your meggings!

Now, apparently the appearance of the bright and colorful made for men, meggings, has made quite the stir on social media. These seem to be a love it or hate it type of situation. Personally, I think these are REALLY COOL! Albeit, I can fully understand why this apparel seems to be quite controversial.  At first consideration, I was a bit skeptical too. However, when I took the time to check out the patterns, colours and most importantly – the way they are actually made, I found that several things set these apart from the assumed gym pant. Although these would be PERFECT gym pants. But I think they would be good for other places and activities as well. KAPOW!

  • Patterns and colours. The array of patterns makes these suitable for more than the workout. Take the below photos for example (Taken from the Kapow site). These sets would even be suitable for the club or music festival.Kapow-24Carat-meggings-hero2Kapow-Mr-Bonejangles-meggings-sideMIlky-way-meggings-front-1

Nightrider-meggings-side-1

  • The fit. These are supposed to be incredibly comfortable. Like never want to take them off -kind of comfy. They stretch with your body and still leave things to the imagination (see next bullet point). The sizes range from a 28-38 inch (71.12 cm- 96.5 cm) waist and there is a lot of give on top of that. They are said to be very forgiving for different body shapes, as the material is adaptable to many forms. Also, for my guys who never skimp on leg day, these leggings stretch to fit your body comfortably. So if you have larger legs than the normal guy, these should still fit nicely. I know, I asked. They would be great for yoga, running, anything really that requires movement when you don’t want to let that shorts leg hang down or hike up too much! And I think these patterns would be groovy 🙂

(Just a little note: These above are my faves. ‘Supernova’)

  • Make. Ladies and gentlemen, this is where it gets good. You remember that bicycle shorts craze where everyones …assets were on display? Well, if you look back through the photos I’ve posted, you will see that that is not the case here. These are tailor made with extra width around the waist, so everything just sort of blends in with the waistline. As a woman, I think this is fantastic! I don’t think any of us really like it when, um…when the family jewels are standing out from the crowd. Thank you to this company for making sure to say ‘buh-bye’ to unsightly bulge!
  • Price. Totally reasonable at 24.99GBP, 29.82€ or $33.24 (based on todays conversion rates)
  • International orders are welcome and I’ve got a great code for SHIPPING on orders of two or more pairs. Orders are made through the Kapow Meggings website. (I have linked it for you). Just make sure to input the code’ LEBFREESHIPPING ‘ so you can get your free shipping! (Seriously, free shipping is HUGE) This code is only valid through the end of October.

If you’re down for the social media hunt, you can find their Facebook page here, and their instagram here. I know, I’ve been stalking to make sure these really are as popular as they seem to be. They are 😉

Kapow-Logo-Black

If you’re the kind of man who wears the clothes and doesn’t let your clothes wear you; confident, fun, happy…I say GO FOR IT! WORK IT! I know my fiancé might have a colorful surprise for his birthday…

What do you think, would you wear these? Love it or hate it? Or do you have some? (I’d love to hear your thoughts!)

Wedding guests confess: What happened at a wedding that tipped you off that it wouldn’t last?

I’ve heard some funny, and some totally horrific stories that tipped off friends and family that the nuptials weren’t made to last.

Reddit, also made a post asking this question and received approx 12,000 responses! If you want a good true-life horror, click here to read some of the reader responses! I am posting a few of the comments below:

  • destiny divided commented: ‘The groom looked drunk and the bride seemed incredibly angry. Then there was this woman walking around during the reception placing bets on when they would divorce. I later found out she was the mother of the groom. What are some of your wedding stories?’
  • jennygraham2012 commented: ‘Grooms mistress found out he was getting married and showed up at the wedding, in the middle of the i-do’s, walked right up on stage and smacked him in the face.’
  • vogelarcher15 posted: ‘At the rehearsal dinner, the groom’s mom is in tears, because “he looks miserable” and he was, we all knew it. During the vows they had written for eachother, the bride starts with “I know I can be a pretty terrible person, and I don’t know why you’ve stuck around, but that’s all going to change starting today!” They were divorced a year later.’
  • Owtlaw1 shares that: ‘The bride had the minister put “Til death, or divorce, do us part” into the ceremony.’
  • cricketino posted: ‘My cousin (the bride) told us, as she was going from table to table thanking the guests, that she didn’t think it would last. We were stunned. They lasted about a year.’
  • Sunkenloki commented: ‘Groom got caught getting frisky with a bridesmaid. That marriage lasted for about two hours.’
  • Conundrum1 says: ‘At the end of the reception the guys are sitting at a table away from everyone else talking and we ask the groom why he proposed. His answer? “Because she was naked.”
Marriage lasted about a year and a half.’
  • And for a stranger than fiction comment, colonial chicken posted: ‘Holy shit. My cousin “Jan’s” wedding was basically just a preamble to an elaborate Dance of Divorce that we all knew was coming from the moment the engagement began. For context, this took place 15 years ago in the backwoods of NC. My family is just a generation or two removed from snake-handling in church, so some of the wackiness is the product of upwardly mobile inbreeding, and redneck gumption. Just a few things that come to mind:
Her fiance proposed to her OVER THE CORPSE OF HER FATHER. He was over with the family watching TV when Jan’s dad collapsed on the floor. He died before emergency services arrived. Her boyfriend grabbed her hands as she was sitting next to her father’s body, pulled her up to her feet, and then asked her to marry him. He later said that he “didn’t want her to get away”.
The fiance then disappeared for a month the week after the funeral. Nobody knew where to reach him.
The bride’s white trash mother told Jan that she had to get married within 4 months because she (the mother, my aunt) planned to move to another state with her new boyfriend to avoid bill collectors.
When Jan’s fiance showed back up, he was cagey and weird. Eventually, it came out that he’d been living with his ex-girlfriend because she insisted that he had to give her a month of his life, or she’d take him to court for child support that he was supposed to be paying on their infant son, but had never paid.
Throughout all of this, Jan continued to insist that she wanted to marry him. My mother and I did most of the wedding prep and arrangements (Jan’s mom, despite insisting on the 4-month timeline to help pay for the wedding before her move, never contributed a dime.), and we were both pretty convinced that the wedding was going to be cancelled at any moment. But, the day arrived, and so did the principle players. At the wedding itself:
The groom walked around drinking PBR out of a massive travel thermos with a novelty straw, and told everyone who would listen that Jan was a good “starter wife”.
Jan threw several tantrums about stupid shit, including one in which she accused the groom of stealing her drink. He told her she was a “dumb whore”, but it all worked out because then she found her drink.
The groom pulled the ring off of Jan’s finger during the reception and swallowed it “as a joke”.
The groom picked a fight with his father because his dad had asked the ex-girlfriend to stay at home, and the groom had really wanted her to be there. Jan was in the dark about this invitation until the fight broke out.
Epilogue: Shocking precisely nobody, except possibly Jan herself, they eventually did divorce. Eating the ring caused the groom some discomfort, so they had to cancel their honeymoon to the mountains so that he could go to the ER and get hospital-grade laxatives. They lost money on the cancellation and the ER visit, which they really didn’t have to lose. That resulted in some immediate debt problems, and they lost the trailer they’d planned to rent when they couldn’t come up with the deposit. That resulted in both of them moving into the groom’s parents’ home, into his old bedroom. Things went downhill from there.
The groom’s ex-girlfriend popped back up less than 3 months after the wedding, heavily pregnant with his second child. She went after him for another “shared month”, but Jan wasn’t cool with it. The ex ended up taking him to court for child support. Jan got a second job to make ends meet while resigning herself to living with her inlaws for a while longer. One day, after he’d dropped her off at work, the groom sold Jan’s car. He then disappeared for several more weeks. She lost both jobs, and shortly thereafter realized she was pregnant.
The groom accused her of cheating because he thought he couldn’t have more than two children in a lifetime, and his ex-girlfriend had already filled the quota. As I understand it, this is what ultimately caused the rift in their relationship.’

I am now officially horrified to see whats going to happen!

I would love to hear some of your wedding horror stories…Please Share!

Our DIY Rural Engagement Party

I absolutely adore the outdoors…especially in the countryside! When my lovely fiancé informed me that he was planning an engagement party this summer, I got so excited!

True, like most couples, we made ourselves borderline insane trying to plan the perfect party. True, we argued about furniture placement and menu ideas. True, we both have champagne taste and a zero budget. True, we love each other and finally decided the best part of all of it was putting it together and enjoying the journey…not just the destination.

So, with all this in mind and an ever-growing guest list, we opted for the simple, self-hosted, beauty of the countryside outdoors. I mean, people run to the countryside for holiday…right? Why not make use of what we’ve got?

We have several picnic style tables and this gorgeous rustic tree table and bench, which we set up in the yard and also indoors. We made 3 ball jar bouquets of wildflowers. The only additions to the flowers I purchased, was 1 stem each of sunflowers and small lilies for each jar, plus a small woven metallic heart for a little extra – Umph. The wildflowers were picked from the yard the morning of and included; daisies, purple clover, some little white flowers I have no idea what they are, purple and white lupines, and bunches of red burning love.

For the food, we put out plates of mini doughnuts, white chocolate & cranberry cookies, Sandwich cake with roast beef florets, fruit filled truffles, fruit and cheese assortment, rice pies, cream filled pastry, stuffed olives / cocktail pickles and cheese assortment, coffee, juice & soda for the kids and champagne for toasting. Not surprisingly, there were basically no leftovers.

The party lasted about 6 hours if you factor in the early comers who helped setup, and the late stayers who helped clean up. It was fantastic and we didn’t slow down a bit throughout the whole thing! The weather was calling for rain the entire day and we were very fortunate that not only did it NOT rain, but the sun was shining beautifully and there was just enough breeze for everyone to hang out outside and have some fun 🙂

I must admit that I am more of a formal girl when it comes to parties and important engagements. Had I been left to my own devices, I would have surely planned a sit-down catered champagne and dancing dinner. However, it would have been a huge mistake! Being able to show people around, laugh, play with the dogs, play football in the yard, take my time straightening up afterwards, have access to a functioning kitchen, and be able to help serve my guests (even if only by making pot after pot of coffee) – which really made me feel like a good hostess, and watching people mingle and play freely (which they wouldn’t have been able to do given my ulterior ultra formal controlled setting) – I realized that having a fun beautiful happy day was more important than keeping appearances. And it turned out FABULOUSLY!

Please share any of your party or wedding ideas!

Thanks for reading 🙂
