Wealth In Friendship Is Wealth Indeed!

We live in a world where we are constantly competing. Pushing…for more. But, do you ever just pause during your day and consider how wealthy you truly are? Nooo, not monetary wealth. That is fleeting. And, in this day, is nothing more than someone’s typing in zero’s and one’s. No. I mean wealthy in friendships, wealthy in relationships, wealthy in the currency of luv.

I think that all too often, so many of us take for granted the fact that there are people who care about us. And occasionally, we realise how much we truly do appreciate those who care enough to deal with us. I don’t have millions of friends. Quite the opposite, actually. But those friends and family that I do have, are super! I mean really, think about it. We ALL have our special brand of weird. Every. One. Of. Us. Even if you’re ‘normal’ (ok, especially if you’re normal!) that’s so odd now that, that, my friend, is your brand of weird. I forget sometimes how easily annoyed I am at others perceived flaws. You know, the really difficult to ignore flaws. And then I have to remind myself that, my friends and family are just as annoyed by me. That’s not a great feeling and really makes one appreciate that fact that people actually like me enough to stay around when I’m being stupid. And when I complain. And when I eat cake like I’m a food deprived monster. Do I tell them that I appreciate them? No, of course not. I’m…worried I’ll be perceived as a complete basket case. So, I come here and I tell you.

I do think that we should tell the people who care about us, and who listen to all our crazy, that we appreciate them and that we’ll listen to their crazy too. After all, isn’t needing to be loved and cared about one of the basic needs that we all have in common with every person on this planet?

A Question For My Readers – Your Feedback Is Appreciated!

As you have probably seen, I decided to include some affiliate marketing here. I, of course, wanted to sign on with the companies and products that I myself admire. Sustainable fashion/home, luxury items, contemporary furniture, travel and software. Through this process, I have also tried to only offer those things which may be of interest to you, my readers.  I am aware, of course, that most any kind of advertisement goes unnoticed, or worse, makes people adverse to visiting ‘your’ site. But this also includes my being able to offer specialized promo codes. (Which is always nice to be able to share a special discount. I love special discounts!)

You are a very diverse group of people, and so I feel that instead of trying to guess about it, I should really just ask YOU. That’s what we do here…no?

Please, take the time to answer so I can stop being strange about this.

What would you prefer to see OR prefer to NOT see? (as per accessibility/promo codes):

  1. Travel (airfare, sight seeing, hotel…)
  2. Sustainable Goods
  3. Luxury Goods
  4. Luxury Resale (consignment)
  5. Software
  6. Gifts
  7. Handcrafted goods
  8. Beauty
  9. Home goods
  10. Helpful services
  11. Any combination of these which interests you (please state which)

This way, I am able to focus on only those things and I can remove myself from the remaining programmes to save everyone some time and frustration.

I would also like to ask you; How important are duties and shipping to you?

Please let me know and I will adjust accordingly.

Thank you for reading (& hopefully answering) this!

Trying New Blog Formats

9

I decided that I would like to add a bit of ‘newness’ to my blog here. As you surely noticed, I have been changing formats like I’m trying for new shoes. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I just can’t seem to find a format that I’m super happy with.

Does this happen to you? Do you become overwhelmed with the options and find something you think is perfect only to discover you can do nothing with it? Ugh.

Oh, if there was a format that you either do or do not like, please let me know.

Still on the search

I Am Not Posting The RBRC This Month

Hello all 🙂

I hope that you were able to find some relatable data from the Blog Following Experiment that I posted 2 days ago.

Due to all of the work/research/organizing I have spent my time on recently, I have been unable to get through an entire book (or one that is relevant more than in my own corner of the earth) this month. So, I am postponing the Recycled Book Reading Challenge until 1 March.

Please do feel free to link to your own RBRC posts so that I may link to them as well!

Thank you for understanding

Skype… WTF?!

20

Skype. I’m not a big fan. However, this application does prove useful for certain blog and business related scenarios. Or, it did. But guess what yours truly did…

I opened my computer to research a few things and I realized that Skype was running. Not just running, but, still on a call, running! Apparently, when we were having the storm that kept cutting the electricity, and I was on a Skype conference at the time the electricity cut, the call somehow never fully disconnected and I had been LIVE BROADCASTING on a Skype call for more than 3 days! OMG! How this is possible, I do not understand. When the electric cut, everything went off. But there it was – Skype – still running from my last call! IIIIIKKK!

I think I am done with Skype.

To say ’embarrassing’ is just not adequate.

I Found This Last Night: What Do You Think?

Hello there 🙂

Hope you are all recovering nicely from the holidays!

I was sorting through some items last night and found an envelope full of newspaper articles that had been sent to me about 10 years ago. I keep these things because they are from a beloved person who always thought to send me good recipes and interesting articles from around the world.  She is dearly missed.

571F70AA-F169-43F4-B569-5D4BD8D638C0

This article states that researches have found some evidence that fidelity is in a persons genetic blueprint. However, as I read it, it sounds to me like ‘dad was loyal, I am loyal’. This makes me ponder the age-old question of whether or not something is genetic or environmental? I mean, those who have grown up in families where both parents are in love, loyal and know how to work through their problems are more likely to exhibit similar characteristics.

So, what do you think: Genetic or environmental?

Interesting Topic For Discussion. What Do You Think?

17

Last evening, I found myself engaged in a debate. And the debate was this: Do dogs feel love or do they rather feel a sense of security and loyalty which we mistake as love?

Personally, I would like to think that dogs do have a sense of love and attachment. However, there were really good arguments made for both sides of this. I would really like to know what you think!

What do you think: Love or loyalty?

My Souvenir From the USA

15

So, a girlfriend of mine goes on holiday to the USA. When we all get together to hear about her trip, this is what she gives us.

DONALD TRUMP CHOCOLATE BARS!?!!

This livened up the conversation a bit, as you might well imagine. We all had a good giggle.

I did not even know this was a thing.

Overwhelmed in Bloggerdom

13

So, what happens when I’ve worked my ass off to get a ton of great content to write about? Well – this, of course. For the first time ever, I’ve found myself so overwhelmed that I can barely complete a thought.

I. Can’t. Believe. It.

I LOVE blogging and all the many hours of research that goes into it gives me some sort of super nerdy pleasure. So the fact that I feel like throwing a few things into a bag and running wherever the sunset takes me for a few days, instead of doing what I love to do on the daily (Blog, gardening, social media, learning, and ‘lunching’) baffles me.

I don’t have writers block. Quite the contrary, actually. But for some reason, the perfectionist in me has not currently been allowing me to sit down and write the way I want things written. So, instead, I have been focusing on some of my favourite light-hearted series’ and then multi-tasking. Multi-tasking meaning that I can’t focus on 1 thing, but am instead in the middle of 100 things and completing none of them. This is new.

What do you think? Is this being overwhelmed, or do I just have a major case of wanderlust with a side of ‘attention span of a fruitfly’?

No worries, I’m not flaking out on you guys. I just wanted to let you know what was going on in my world since I usually post every other day.

Happy Summer!

The Diderot Effect

23

Hello there 🙂

I’ve recently been having a bit of trouble controlling my impulses. As most of you well know, I’ve been going the minimalist route. A loose version of the colorful capsule wardrobe; AKA: I don’t have a lot of money, so I have very few quality pieces that currently fit.

I received a few new items for my birthday several months ago. 🙂 However, I’ve been noticing recently that I find myself wanting more. I catch myself perusing online shopping venues, walking through luxury store chains, searching for that perfect piece, made of 100% natural fibres, that I cannot afford yet desperately want to bring home with me. I’ve been questioning why I remain unsatisfied with the items I have.

Finally, I realized what was happening. This urge to buy all new, not just replace worn out items. Thus comes the Diderot effect. It’s a driving factor in consumerism and marketing firms depend upon it.

The Diderot Effect is a theory coming from Frenchman ___ Diderot in the 18th century. He wrote about this consumerist cause and affect theory when he received a nice new dressing gown as a gift from a friend. Diderot noticed, that when compared to his new dressing gown, his belongings looked shabby. He needed to replace his items, so as to match his new dressing gown. He went so far as to even replace the art in his home!

This compulsion to purchase. When 1 purchase leads to further purchases to ‘go with’ the original purchase, this is the Diderot effect. It can be a short term ‘over shop’ or a long term consistent need for new items, even when the original item is not worn out or damaged.

The question remains however, how do we break this cycle? When is enough, enough? Please share any ideas you have on this. If this is a standard problem, a logic issue, there HAS to be a well known way to counter our thinking. I just don’t know what it is.

Thanks for reading!
