How are you?

Hello world 🙂

I wanted only to ask how you are doing? With less than 2 months still of 2020 – the oddest year I have ever experienced – I feel that many of us find ourselves in similar circumstances of wait and worry.

I have found that in my own life, spending too much time online leads me to obsessively looking the news and other media outlets, which helps me – not at all. I instead try to set my focus on other things…happier and less stressful things.

Also, being unable to just go to places and parties…visiting friends or family frequently and without restriction has resulted in weight gain. I am still able to go places and visit with people, but I had not realised the frequency that I was on the move before the restrictions until I found myself feeling quite lazy with the altered pace of social life during restrictions. I have gained more than 10 kgs (about 20 lbs?) this year, and although it disturbs me that even my too large comfortable clothes are now a very tight fit, I am surprising myself with the smallest bit of acceptance. I do truthfully hope that I will fit comfortably into my clothes again soon.

I am very fortunate in that I am able to spend time in the outdoors and to see others when it is suitable circumstance. I have thought about you, my readers and friends in the blogosphere, quite often. I do hope that you and those close to you are doing well.

How are you?

Let’s Discuss!

I have been reading much about the sudden improvements in the environment, due to the coronavirus restrictions. The air is cleaner than anyone could have imagined would be possible in the time of a 4 months, marine life is returning to places long-thought to be absent from, and many good happenings are taking place. The world will most certainly not return to all of the daily habits we had pre-covid19. Keeping physical distance will certainly become more important than before.

There is one aspect (from many) to our lives though, which is currently facing the opportunity to change entirely, and that is the tourism sector. Tourism has stopped. Completely and simultaneously. This creates a never before seen opportunity for the global travel & tourism businesses to adapt better policies and create a system wide improvement.  This is what I want to discuss with you today. Do you think that the industry has an opportunity for change, or no? What changes would you like to see implemented if it were possible?

Please leave your thoughts in the comments and let’s discuss this!

Recycled Book Reading Challenge: Re (Re) Launch!

Greetings to all 🙂

I wanted to re-launch (or, actually re-re-launch) the Recycled Book Reading Challenge! This was quite a popular challenge for the 2 x 12 months I ran it.  I was reminded by a friend in the blogosphere that given the current conditions in the world, it could be a good time to run this challenge again.

The rules are simple:

  • Blow the dust away from a book you’ve had sitting on the shelf for some time, waiting for that ‘perfect moment’ to read it.
  • Read it!
  • Share about it! On the 15th of every month I will write a post about my chosen book.
    • If you have a blog or webpage, post about the book and leave the link in the comment section of the post (so I can link to you in a follow-up post).
    • If you do not have a webpage for sharing, leave a comment in the comment section about your book and if you liked it – so that others can use your review to make future reading decisions!

It really is quite simple, is free, and will take away some of the guilt for not reading those long maintained books in your home.

Joining me is Dr Tanya from Salted Caramel blog, and you have her to thank for getting this challenge re-launched.  I hope you do join us!

To Like or Not To Like, The Like Button is The Question!

I have been thinking much about the possibility of removing the like button on my WordPress blog posts. There are good things and bad things that could go with removing it. Since I share everything with you, my readers, I wanted to ask your opinion on this. I know it is quite a trivial question and I do feel a bit silly. However, this site is for you. I know sometimes when I visit webpages, there are certain things that I find quite annoying, which make me not want to revisit the site. And of course, I do not wish to get that response here.

The Good:

I sometimes get the feeling that often people will just hit the like button on their readers, without ever actually reading the content. It seems that there exists a mentality similar to the Instagram game here, where people will like a post and expect a return like on their content.  As I do make an effort to visit blogs, I only ‘like’ posts which I actually enjoyed reading. I do not just go clicking away on others’ sites.  This tit-for-tat game is frustrating and time consuming for me. So, not having the like button takes this game playing away.  As I will still have the comments section open, I will be able to of course engage in good discussion with you, as I do enjoy that!

I don’t focus so much on numbers. But I do notice them sometimes. And because only people on WordPress are able to leave a like, but none of my readers from other sites or email, the likes do not really give an accurate accounting. So there’s that…

The Bad:

I know that I will wonder if anyone is reading my posts. And if you liked it, or hated it. Silence on the internet is anxiety inducing.

The Scary:

If the like button is removed, I will discover if my content is actually quite horrible. I do fear that if I remove the like button, that somehow I will find myself here writing….for myself. And that is….worrisome.

What do you think?

A Small Thank You

I think that we don’t take the time often enough, to appreciate the people around us and the time they invest in us.

I wanted to thank you, my readers, for taking the valuable time from your lives to read my writings! Some of you read from here, many read from your email inboxes. I enjoy reading your comments and I am still surprised about the online friendships I have made here on the blogosphere. I so much enjoy being in a place where we support each others. Also, I know that many of you support me by clicking on many of the links I share, which is very kind. I appreciate it all very much, thank you!

I would also like to send some appreciation to the new subscribers here on Lifexperiment Blog! I am slowly noticing that subscriber number coming larger all the time. 🙂 I hope that you enjoy being on this trip called life with me, as much as I am enjoying sharing it with you!

You are super!

Readers, You Decide!

Hello there 🙂

Today, I want to ask you about posting some of my series’ a bit more often. I have noticed that my ‘Quirky Quotes‘, ‘Random Factoids‘ and ‘Getting to Know You‘ series’ have actually had a much better response than I ever imagined they would. I have tons of fun with these also, so I have been going back-and-forth on the idea of doing them weekly, as opposed to monthly as I do now.

I originally opted to post these monthly because 1) I never imagined anyone other than myself would have so much fun with it and…2) I was only posting 2-3 times weekly. I am now posting more often so it would not be difficult at all to include these on a more frequent basis as well.

You are the ones reading my blog, so I leave this question in your very capable hands. Would you like to see more of these, or prefer I keep it the way it is now?

What do you think?

A Small Thank You

I really felt the need to thank you, my amazing readers, today. Thank you for taking the valuable time out of your lives to read what I write. Thank you for joining me on this journey and being sooooo supportive throughout! Thank you for fostering such great friendships here and in the comment section too! Thank you for making me know that I’m not alone when I feel like I’m not living up to the ‘best me’. Thank you for making use of my affiliate links sometimes (and helping me out whilst doing so)! Thank you for creating such a good environment here that I often refer to this as my ‘blog family’. Thank you for the Happy Birthday emails, the random ‘Hellos’ and ‘Best Wishes’! Most of all, thank you dear readers, for being you!

So much of what we do in the world goes un-noticed and unrecognized. There is no reason behind this. I’ve just been thinking about how far we’ve come in the past several years and it would not have been at all possible without you.  I just really wanted to let you know that I appreciate all that you do and I look forward to having such a great home on the blogosphere for many years to come!

You are Awesome!

Reader Write-In!

I am so excited. I mean, really. You know when you have those moments where you wonder if anyone actually reads your blog…or cares? Well, maybe you don’t. But I definitely do.  Anyway, I was having one of those moments when I checked my email and Da-dah-da! – email from one of my readers whom I just adore.

This lady has been very active and has participated in many elements/competitions/giveaways. It feels fantastic when people participate!

Imagine my joy when I realized that she heard me when I was talking about ‘minimalism’ – basically cleaning it up, making things easier, and organizing like a crazed person. She took my suggestions to heart and actually put them into practice!

She told me that I could publish this letter that she sent to me. And it is a pleasure to do so!

DEAR MLIAE,

I was highly impacted from the beginning of your articles on minimalism. I just couldn’t get around to following through with the motions of working on my own closet! I actually have 2 closets that are equally cram packed and when I took this picture there was a full load of my clothes in the washing machine!

Can you imagine the trouble I had getting an outfit together in this mess!

g closet b4

I was so impressed by your putting your outfits in an easy to grab fashion!
Also I had things hanging there that I had NOT worn in years but just couldn’t let go of them.

There were things I had been looking for all summer that I found when I cleaned this out. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Below I took a picture of all the empty hangers that were left over once I trudged through the ridiculous amount of clothes I never use!

It was amazing!

This past weekend I packed for a full trip in minutes because everything was in outfits and nothing was lost under the piles of clothes I had I am embarrassed to say just thrown up in my closet

g hangars

Can you see how much I took out?

This was before I had put it in order.

Every time I look in my closet which is obviously at least once daily; I am thankful for you!

g after

I have my things orderly, in outfits , where I can easily :

Pack for a weekend,

Grab an outfit for whatever weather happens to be coming along, and feel good about what I have picked out.

Pocket books are some accessories are in the boxes; scarves are tucked into the tops.

THANK YOU MLIAE!!

I am so happy about this letter, I have been smiling for days! I have to thank her (THANK YOU!) for letting me know about all of this, and thank her for reading, participating and just being a super cool person!

Happy! Happy!
