The 12 Laws of the Universe: A Beginner’s Guide to Mastering Your Reality

Most people have heard of the Law of Attraction thanks to books like The Secret. But did you know that is just one of 12 universal laws?

Think of the Universe like a game. If you only know one rule (Attraction), you might win occasionally. But if you know all 12 rules, you become a master of the game.

These 12 Laws of the Universe are intrinsic, unchanging principles that have roots in ancient cultures (often associated with Ho'oponopono and Hermetic philosophy). Whether you view them through a spiritual lens or a scientific one, understanding them can help you live a life of less resistance and more flow.

Here is the complete breakdown of the 12 laws and, most importantly, how to use them.

What Are The 12 Laws of the Universe

They are a set of 12 ideas that are considered intrinsic and unchanging, and have roots in a variety of ancient cultures. When it comes to the following, there are a lot of ways to benefit by leading a more compassionate, joy-filled life:

    1. The Law of Divine Oneness

This is the foundational law. It states that everything in the universe-every person, every thought, and every atom-is connected. We are all part of the same energy source.

Because we are connected, every action you take ripples out and affects the collective. This is similar to the "Butterfly Effect."

How to Apply It: Treat others with compassion. When you hurt others, you hurt yourself. When you heal yourself, you help heal the collective.

    2. The Law of Vibration

Everything in the universe, including your thoughts, is constantly in motion and vibrating at a specific frequency. Science confirms that nothing rests.

This is critical for manifesting. High-vibe emotions (love, gratitude, joy) attract high-vibe reality. Low-vibe emotions (fear, anger, shame) attract difficult situations.

How to Apply It: Use tools to raise your frequency. 50 daily affirmations for success are a great way to shift your vibration from negative to positive instantly.

    3. The Law of Correspondence

This law is often summarized by the phrase: "As above, so below. As within, so without."

Your outer reality is a direct mirror of your inner reality. If your life feels chaotic, stressful, and messy, it is likely because your internal world (your mind) is chaotic. You cannot fix the outside world without fixing your mindset first.

How to Apply It: If you want to change your career or relationships, start by cleaning up your internal thoughts.

    4. The Law of Attraction

12 Laws of Attraction positive affirmation "I attract all good things" written on paper.

This is the most famous law. It states that "like attracts like."

Whatever you focus on-whether it is positive or negative-you draw toward you. If you wake up thinking, "Today is going to be a bad day," you will likely look for reasons to make that true.

How to Apply It: Stop focusing on what you don't want. Instead, become a vibrational match for what you do want. (Read our full guide on what is manifesting? to master this law).

    5. The Law of Inspired Action

This law works in partnership with the Law of Attraction. While attraction is about the internal work (visualizing), this law requires you to take external steps.

You cannot just wish for a result; you must move toward it. When you take a step, the Universe moves to meet you.

How to Apply It: Don't wait for the "perfect moment." If you have an intuitive nudge to send an email, apply for a job, or go to a specific place-do it. That is Inspired Action.

    6. The Law of Perpetual Transmutation of Energy

This law sounds complex, but it is simple: Energy is always changing and flowing.

The powerful takeaway here is that you have the power to change energy. High vibrations triggers (and transforms) low vibrations. If you walk into a sad room with high energy, you can lift the room.

How to Apply It: When you feel a negative thought coming on, you have the power to transmute it. Do not suppress it; acknowledge it and then choose a more positive thought to replace it.

    7. The Law of Cause and Effect

Often referred to as Karma, this law states that every action has a corresponding reaction.

Nothing happens by chance. The energy you put out (the cause) will eventually come back to you (the effect). This applies to thoughts, behaviors, and actions.

How to Apply It: Act with intention. Before you act, ask yourself: "Is this the kind of energy I want returned to me?"

    8. The Law of Compensation

This law is about the rewards you reap. It states that you will be compensated for what you contribute to the world.

This isn't just about money (though it includes it). It is about love, joy, and friendship. The more value and kindness you contribute, the more you will receive in return.

How to Apply It: If you want more wealth, ask yourself: "How can I serve more people?" If you want more love, ask: "How can I be more loving?"

    9. The Law of Relativity

Nothing is inherently "good" or "bad" until you compare it to something else.

We tend to judge our lives by comparing them to others' highlight reels on social media. The Law of Relativity reminds us that everyone faces challenges, and your "bad day" might be someone else's "best day."

How to Apply It: Practice gratitude for your specific situation. Stop comparing your Chapter 1 to someone else's Chapter 20.

    10. The Law of Polarity

A wide image showing two hands holding up opposing magnets so that their ends will attract in front of a red background.

Everything has an opposite: Hot and cold, up and down, light and dark.

You cannot understand happiness without sadness. The existence of an opposite helps us appreciate the good. If you are going through a breakup (a low), know that it exists on the same spectrum as finding true love (a high).

How to Apply It: When you are in a difficult season, remember that the pendulum will swing back. The darker the night, the brighter the stars.

    11. The Law of Rhythm or Perpetual Motion

The Universe moves in cycles. The tides rise and fall; the seasons change; the moon waxes and wanes.

You are part of nature, so you also have rhythms. You cannot be 100% productive all the time. Burnout happens when we try to force a "summer" energy during a "winter" season of our lives.

How to Apply It: Listen to your body. If you are tired, rest. Trust that your energy will return. Flow with the cycle, not against it.

    12. The Law of Gender (Giving and Receiving)

This law suggests that everything has both masculine (yang) and feminine (yin) energy.

    • Masculine Energy: Doing, giving, logic, action.
    • Feminine Energy: Being, receiving, intuition, flow.

To live a balanced life, you must embrace both. If you are always giving and never receiving, you are out of balance.

How to Apply It: If you struggle to accept compliments or help, you are blocking the flow. Practice saying "Thank you" and allowing yourself to receive.

The 12 Laws of the Universe In Action

Now that you understand the 12 Laws of the Universe better try to use their lessons in your daily life. There are many ways different ways to integrate these universal laws.

Radiate positivity. Think outside of the box. And know that while we can't control everything in our path, we can prepare ourselves and decide how to deal with it.
